Shaggy Mat — Pink & Cream

The only pile mat we make. Loops of cotton are left long and uncut, so the surface is deep and soft rather than knotted and firm, and the pink and cream yarns are mingled through it rather than laid in a pattern.

The mingling is a consequence of the yarn. Offcut cotton arrives in mixed lots and separating it perfectly is not worth the waste, so we spin the two tones together and let the surface do what it does. No two mats mottle the same way.

It is the softest thing in the range and the worst at drying. This is a mat for a bedroom floor or a bathroom that gets used once a day, not for a shared morning.

• Machine washable at 30°C

Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle with like colours, and no fabric softener — it coats the cotton and kills the absorbency. Shake the pile out before drying. Line dry or tumble on low. Full guidance is on Care & Materials.
