Cotton that has already been through a factory once

Zoriqena makes bath mats and rugs from reclaimed garment-industry offcut yarn. That single decision is what sets the colours, the price and most of what is good and bad about the product.

Why the colours are what they are

Clothing factories generate a lot of cotton waste: trimmings, end-of-roll, cutting-room floor. It is already dyed. Sorting it by colour and spinning it back into yarn is cheaper and uses far less water than bleaching it white and starting again.

So the palette is not a design decision in the usual sense. Warm white, milk, oatmeal, stone, dusty pink and burnt orange are the tones that come out of sorted offcut cotton in volume. We did not choose them so much as accept them.

The consequence is honest and worth knowing before you buy: batches vary. A mat ordered next spring will be close to one ordered today, not identical to it.

No backing

No latex, no glue, no anti-slip coating. Backing is what stops a bath mat being properly washable — it cracks, it sheds, and it will not take repeated 30°C cycles. The cost is that a cotton mat slides on polished stone. Use an underlay if that matters.

Five weaves, not fifty

Deep diamond, diamond, open diamond, dot and shaggy — five weaves for the mats, plus a sixth flat construction for the two rugs. Each one is a different answer to the same trade-off between how a mat feels underfoot and how fast it dries. There is no best one.

Where it is made

We are a Hong Kong company and the weaving is done by our supplier. We are not a European mill and we are not going to name a country we have no claim to just because it reads well on a label.

Six things we will not claim

That reclaimed cotton makes the mat stronger. It does not — shorter fibres mean it pills a little more in the first wash.
That this is carbon-neutral, plastic-free or certified anything. We have no certification and will not imply one.
That the colours are a curated palette. They are what the incoming fibre gives us.
That every mat is identical to the photograph. Hand-woven, reclaimed yarn: it will be close.
That a cotton mat will not slide. Without backing it can, and we would rather say so than sell you a surprise.
That any of it is limited, numbered or collectable.

Where to start

If the bathroom is shared and busy, buy a dot mat — it is the cheapest and dries fastest, and nothing else in the range beats it on the only measure that matters at 7am. If it is your own bathroom and used once a day, buy a deep diamond and enjoy standing on it.
